Wisconsin Organizations Plan Events for NeighborWorks® Week

NeighborWorks® Alliance of Wisconsin organizations celebrate neighborhood revitalization  

Milwaukee, WI — NeighborWorks® Alliance of Wisconsin members throughout the state will celebrate their impact on improving lives, strengthening neighborhoods, and building stronger communities during the week of June 4-12. In this week highlighting resident services and neighborhood change and awareness, these critical community organizations highlight the work they do to revitalize communities everyday. The events planned by NeighborWorks® Alliance of Wisconsin organizations are highlighted below. 

CommonBond Communities
Beautify the Meadows
June 6, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Franklin Meadows (7704 S 51st Street, Franklin) 
There are 33 seniors residing at Franklin Meadows, a senior housing community located in Franklin, Wisconsin, a south suburb of Milwaukee. At Beautify the Meadows, residents of Franklin Meadows will gather to beautify the grounds such as planting flowers and plants, pulling weeds, spreading ground cover and watering. Refreshments will be provided.

Beautify Brewery Point
June 7, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Brewery Point (1244 N 9th Street, Milwaukee)
Brewery Point is a senior housing community, home to 51 seniors in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Residents will paint a decorative a bench that will go on the side of the building, providing an area to rest near the outside garden space. If donations are received from Victory Gardens, residents will also plant vegetables and flowers in the nearby gardens.

Open House at Park Hotel Senior Citizen Apartments
Park Hotel Senior Citizen Apartments (213 S Central Ave, Richland Center)
June 4, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon
The open house event will be open to the public and will be a time to encourage potential tenants to view available apartments and the common areas of the building, as well as a time for community socialization. Refreshments will be served and historical photographs of the Park Hotel will be on display. We will also be partnering with the Park Apartment Resident Association which will provide resident volunteers to greet attendees and give guided tours of the apartments. We estimate that approximately 40 people will attend.

Homebuyer Education Workshop
UW-Richland, Richland County Extension Office (1000 Highway 14, Richland Center)
June 7, 2016 from 5:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
The workshop will consist of a four-hour group class that will concentrate on improving financial health, including developing a spending and savings plan, credit reports and scores, and paying off debt. Participants will learn the skills they need to calculate what they can afford, discover programs to help with home purchase, learn secrets to credit scoring and making the most of their income, and discover how to pay off debt, stay out of debt, and reduce expenses. While this class is designed to help those interested in being successful homeowners, anyone is welcome to attend. 

NeighborWorks® Blackhawk Region
6th Annual Community Picnic
June 7, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
NeighborWorks® Blackhawk Region (520 W Grand Ave, Beloit)
Attendees will enjoy picnic-style food, including brats and hot dogs and all the fixins grilled up by NWBR board members. Kids will be able to have their face painted, hang out with Pickles the Clown and enjoy outdoor games and activities. In addition, NWBR partners will participate in the event and provide resources for kids and families, including Beloit Public Library's Summer Reading Program and the Beloit Police Department's Badges for Baseball. 

NeighborWorks® Green Bay
NeighborWorks® Green Bay Summer Picnic
NeighborWorks® Green Bay will host a picnic for its neighbors that live in its rental properties. The picnic will also be an opportunity to introduce these neighbors to NeighborWorks® Green Bay’s emerging “Financial Capabilities” program. Financial Capabilities is an empowering combination of financial literacy education, counseling, and coaching that will help people take control of their personal finances and futures.
